INDIEVEST PICTURES’ NEW PRESIDENT OF PRODUCTION, MARK BURTON, CELEBRATES SUCCESSFUL PREMIERE OF BEAUTIFUL OHIO.

Los Angeles, CA (November 16, 2006)—Accomplice Films’ Beautiful Ohio, the latest feature film executive-produced by Mark Burton, premiered recently at the AFI Festival to rave reviews. The film marks the directorial debut of Chad Lowe and features an ensemble cast that includes Academy Award winner William Hurt, Emmy Award winner Julianna Margulies, and Rita Wilson.

Beautiful Ohio follows a middle-class suburban family trying to find its place during the cultural upheavals of 1973 America. The story unfolds through the eyes of 15-year-old William Messerman (Brett Davern), who lives in the constant shadow of his older brother Clive (David Call), a free-spirited and enigmatic mathematical genius. Clive’s estrangement from mainstream society is manifested in part by his habit of talking in his own secret language—a habit that sets off a chain of events that will change him and his family forever.

Beautiful Ohio is the first screenplay written by Ethan Canin, based on his short story, Batorsag & Szerelem. Mark Burton, President of Production at IndieVest Pictures, served as executive producer of the film, alongside former producing partners Hilary Swank and Chad Lowe of Accomplice Films. Beautiful Ohio was co-produced by Wonderfilms Productions and Boom Baby Productions, which is owned by former NBA star Reginald “Reggie” Miller.

On the heels of its premiere, the film has already begun to receive critical acclaim. AFI Festival reviewers wrote, “The impressive ensemble cast delivers strong, yet subtle performances, while [Chad] Lowe’s mature and even-handed direction infuses the film with authenticity.”

Variety’s Peter Debruge agreed, adding that, “Chad Lowe has ably made the transition to director with ‘Beautiful Ohio’…his debut coaxes sensitive performances from a handful of first-timers acting alongside pros Rita Wilson and William Hurt.”
